Updated Availability for Fall Planting
I’ve just updated our plant availability list and we’ve still got plenty of native plants in stock for your fall planting projects. Why plant in the fall? As air temperatures begin to become cooler than soil temperatures, new above ground growth of plants slows down, allowing them to focus their energy on root development in the soil that is still warm. The additional moisture from fall rains aids plants in establishing strong root systems, with less watering than would be needed in the heat of the summer. Get plants in the ground this fall so that they get their roots into the soil, are ready to go next spring, and are better established before the heat of next summer begins!
We have still have limited amounts of Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) and Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), and plenty of Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa). The milkweed are senescing for the season, but still have healthy roots so you can get a head start on some monarch habitat for next year before the monarchs arrive and begin laying eggs.
As the growing season progresses and plants become ready, they’ll get added to our availability list, so please check our availability regularly. It is typically updated every other week, but sometimes more often if there are significant changes. Below, please find a link to our current, and anticipated, availability, updated on 9/26/2021. In the “availability” column you can find out whether a plant is available now, or will be at a future date. Plants listed in BOLD are available now.
We are now accepting orders via email or phone for contact free pickup here at our nursery. You are also welcome to schedule a visit to the nursery to browse plants. Nursery visits are by appointment only with 24 hours notice to ensure that we don’t have overlapping appointments. Please make sure to call ahead for an appointment, as we cannot allow nursery visits without one at this time. We are scheduling appointments Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Thursday from 10am to 1pm. We are closed and unavailable for appointments Sunday through Tuesday.
